This is my first visit to Voodoo. I ordered the smoked brisket po-boy, which I'll admit was pretty good, but very plain. I was quite surprised to see only meat on the bun. Maybe I didn't read the menu fully, or perhaps my understanding of what a "po-boy" is traditionally is a little off. The meat was good, and I even enjoyed the BBQ sauce (which I know has mixed reviews here). Very friendly staff, and the atmosphere was also pretty good, quite relaxed and surprisingly quiet at dinner time. My 3 star review is based solely on the strength of the sandwich, which was decent but didn't blow me away.

I recently had a luncheon catered by voodoo bbq. I was so happy with how everything turned out. They delivered and set up all of the food right on time. The delivery was made by the general manager. He was very professional and friendly. He brought all the extras, silverware, napkins and serving utensils. The food was amazing. My co-workers could not say enough about how good the food was. We ordered the pulled pork, with corn pudding, greens and slaw, and the dessert, their bread pudding was incredibly decadent. I will definitely use them again.

If you're in the area, definitely make a stop. It's on the pricey side but it's delicious. What we had: -Gumbo as an app. - tasty. Similar to a brown stew with chicken and sausage and rice. -Crawfish étouffée - absolutely delicious. Try it!! It's buttery, great spice, soup-like with some rice. Recommended! - voodoo platter - ribs and meat of your choice. ( we had the pulled pork) Pretty good. Probably wouldn't order again. - BBQ shrimp dinner - super tasty! Not BBQ like southern BBQ, but whatever the shrimp is swimming in is amazing. Literally tastes good on anything. It's a buttery-garlicy sauce. Comes with two pieces of bread which you need to let soak up the sauce and then devour it. RECOMMENDED! - sides: cornbread - yes! Very soft and sweet. Corn pudding - pretty good. Corn casserole basically. Sweet potato soufflé - yes!!! This is terrific. Not just for thanksgiving! Recommended! Loaded baked potato- you can swap two sides for this one. Loaded up with melted cheddar cheese, sour cream, bacon and chives. Very good!! And last but not least... - beignets ! Three fried deliciously good dough covered in powdered sugar. I haven't had beignets before but for a first, I'm excited to have some more!! I've heard them called like donuts, but they are lighter and flakier and These have a slight resemblance of banana fritter taste to me. They are very good!! Definitely recommend! Would I return? Yes! To get some more crawfish étouffée, sweet potato soufflé, BBQ shrimp and beignets.

I was in town and staying at a nearby hotel when the beer thirst hit me. Tried out Voodoo and was very pleased. I ordered a shrimp po boy, which was pretty good, but not the best I've ever had, and onion rings. I don't know the typical consistency of the onion rings here, but the ones I got were possibly the best onion rings I've ever eaten. Also quenched my beer thirst with an Abita. Service was good and the prices were reasonable.

Very attentive waitress, and the manager provided dessert for free! It was a great experience, loved the onion rings, pulled pork, spicy jerk chicken, corn pudding, and coleslaw. Great music, too!

how to rate a place you are only at because you've been forced to eat there? cancelled flight, stuck near the airport overnight. brisket and pulled pork platter with mac & cheese and bbq beans. sat at the bar, watched some basketball, drank some drinks. i was supposed to be eating ramen in san francisco but there are worse consolation meals to be had on the same stretch of road. in summation, if you are reading this and you have the ability to get yourself someplace else - for bbq go to the joint in bywater. for close-ish to the airport go to mosca's (italian). and if you are reading this because you got a voucher for the sheraton from some bastid airline company or other, don't worry - it ain't that bad. at least twice as good as the second line sports edition at the hilton.

Surprisingly tasty. There's not much in this area and I'm pretty high maintenance about BBQ, but I enjoyed the food and the service. I had the brisket, which was really tender and flavorful. It's Texas style BBQ, so it's not all drowned in sauce. Their house sauces served on the side were very good.

Our flight cancelled so we ended spending the night at one of the airport hotels. Other than Wendy's this was our only option. Chicken wings were great! Burgers and Ribs were not the best we have had. Over all 3 stars.

Food was good, but nothing memorable. Had the spicy Angel's chicken wings and the Graveyard Platter (brisket and sausage) with corn pudding and mac n cheese as the sides. Wings were meaty and spicy sauce was good, but not really "spicy" (a good thing). I would order them again if I was to come back. The sausage didn't seem much different from a kielbasa you could purchase at your local grocery store, just ehhh. Brisket was good and tender, I just wish it was served a little warmer (was like a luke warm cup of water). The mac n cheese though, was delish and I regret not getting two orders of that rather than the "corn pudding". Corn pudding was some concoction of sweet kernel corn, corn bread, and sweet creamed corn as the binder. The whole thing resembled some form of baby food or pre-chewed Indian dish (not the indian with a feather). Either way, stay away from that one... Gross. Overall though food was good, but I wouldn't make it a point to come back if I was to come through town again.

Came for dinner because it was the only choice near my airport hotel. Had no expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. The service couldn't have been better and the food was better than what I got at most places in NOLA at half the price. The pulled pork with Mojo sauce was a perfect match. The corn pudding was delicious. And did I mention the service was great? If I'm ever in this area again I'll happily return for seconds.

This place was excellent! I just flew in and checked into my hotel and on the way I saw this restaurant. I went in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. The menu is simple but everything my table ordered was delicious. I ordered the Graveyard platter. It was my choice of 2 meats and 2 sides. I got the pulled pork and brisket with Baked Beans and fries. Both the pulled pork and brisket was very tender. I loved every bite. On the table, there is a choice of 3 sauces. Original BBQ sauce, spicy sauce and a vinegar based sauce. All were great. They also have a kids menu. Their Mac and cheese is homemade. It was very flavorful. After trying a bite I wished I ordered it myself. You can order the Mac and cheese as a side if you want. For dessert I had the cherry cobbler which was also freshly baked. I are every last bite. They also have a huge parking lot so there is not parking problems.

Alright. Here's my take on VooDoo BBQ after 4 nights of staying at the hotel next door. Night one: Abita Amber draft(s): good, delicious, always cold and correctly poured. New, (Abita/VooDoo labeled) chilled glass every-time. $4.00 each. Chicken and smoked sausage gumbo: I was hungry, and had just landed off a 6 hour plane transit, but this was good. I tend to try gumbo pretty much everywhere I go that serves it, hoping that bowl will be the best I have tried yet... It was not, but was a decent bowl. $5.99 Side house salad with spicy ranch. A decently proportioned salad. Romaine, topped with sliced red onions, quartered tomatoes, and grated cheddar. Spicy/chipotle ranch dressing on the side. Came with entree. BBQ shrimp entree: fresh whole shrimp cooked in and served with a butter/garlic/Worcestershire sauce. Garlic French bread served draped across bowl. Two sides: potato salad and Mac and cheese. Shrimp were excellent, the sauce made the dish. Also, having the garlic bread to dip/sop up the leftover juice was a great treat. $16.99 Lunch day two: Pulled pork, smoked&sliced sausage, BBQ chicken slices, potato salad, BBQ beans, sweet corn pudding. Firstly, this was lunch... Needless to say, no one who ate this was any use for the rest of the day. The pulled pork was nicely smoked and delicious. The smoked sausage was tasty, I wouldn't turn it down for free. The BBQ chicken was sliced, but still juicy and tasty. Sides were good; potato salad was Better than the night before, sweet corn pudding was a great delight, and the BBQ beans left a want for more on my palate. I may have well slept for the rest of the day.... Food coma. Day 3: Voodoo Burger: yeah, yeah, yeah.... A burger is just a burger. Thai was cooked medium, (as requested), juicy, delicious, awesomeness flowed from it. The French fries could have been there, I don't remember... The burger stole the show. Recommend this, and I would hope all burgers from here as well. Finally..... Day 4.... Gravedigger combo: pulled pork with jerk chicken, potato salad, Mac and cheese, and a piece of cornbread with a side salad. $12.99 + $2.99 for salad. This was alright. Pulled pork was not as good as the pervious day. Still ok for pulled pork... But ya know. I was disappointed in the jerk chicken. It was sliced like the BBQ chicken from the previous day, but upon closer examination... It had bubbles in it, like it was a pressed chicken patty. Flavor was blah. Sides were as expected. Cornbread muffin was probably he standout of this meal... And the spicy ranch (of course). Overall, no BS review of VooDoo... Good, not great. When someone from New Hampshire can say they have a better BBQ place in their hometown (KC's Ribshack of Manchester, NH.... Seriously... It's some of the best out there...) well I associate the south with food BBQ. I had some good BBQ, at what I call decent to quasi expensive prices. Bottom line... Would I go again? Yes... I would get gumbo, a burger OR pulled pork, and a side salad with spicy ranch.

The best thing about this place are the superficial qualities. It smells delicious. The decor is cool and the employees are almost always young and attractive. That is where the positives end.....the food is mediocre. As Mr. Sara pointed out, there is better barbecue at the grocery store deli. The sides are bland and usually taste old. I know people will howl about my one star, but I am not a one time patron. This review is based on my collective experiences with Voodoo. In my not so humble opinion, they should be less image conscious and more quality driven.

I've been here several times, and it's kind of a mixed bag. We usually sit at the bar, so it's been a long time since I had table service here. The brisket is not good, the pulled pork is hit or miss, and the chicken is good. The service is good, but the main thing is the food. It's a BBQ place, so the brisket should at least not be half fat. Oops. It was listed in the T-P a while back for being one of the dirtiest places in the metro, but who knows how accurate those lists are, and what restaurant doesn't have some kind of violation. The Wendy's near here feels worse than this place from a cleanliness standpoint. Anyway, if you are in the area and in need of Voodoo, then this place is okay, but beware the brisket.

My husband works nearby so we frequent this place every few weeks. The last few times have been so disappointing. Seems like the problem is in the kitchen. After waiting 45 minutes for our food at lunch we asked the waitress and she said they were waiting on the turkey to finish cooking. We asked her to change it to pork and it came out almost immediately. It looked like they scraped the bottom of the barrel because the pork was nearly minced. My chicken salad had ONE chopped up chicken tender on it. The waitress even said it didn't look right to her and she'd ask them to make me more chicken....ummm no- we don't have time for that! Needless to say, we won't be back for a while and we don't recommend that our friends do either.

Just came in from cali and was suggested this place by the hotel. It was not the best bbq I have ever had but it sure was good. I had the voodoo plater with the baby back ribs and the pulled pork. Ribs were smoked well with flavor and the pulled pork was very tender. The food came out luke warm not hot like I was expecting, but the sides I had were to die for. The sweet potato mash was the best I have ever had and the baked beans had a great after spice that just made my pallet want more. I really suggest this place for those of you who just came into town and are looking for some good bbq.

Went on a Thursday night and the restaurant was maybe 1/3 full. I sat in the bar area hoping to catch a game on NBC Sports Network while eating dinner. It took almost 5 minutes before anyone recognized I had walked in. Waitress was very short with me and took almost 10 minutes to bring me a water. I inquired about the game on NBCSN, she agreed they had the channel, and that she would put it on for me. Came back to get my food order, still no game on so I asked again. 15 minutes later I get my food, still no game on so I ask again. By the time I finish my food, the bartender comes out and starts searching for the game. She can't seem to find it so she very rudely asks what exactly are you looking for. I tell her and she finally finds it. By this point, I am ready to leave. It still took another 15 or so minutes to get a check and have them run my card. In there almost an hour and received very little service. Food was decent but nothing special. Overall awful experience. I will not return.

I have eaten at several of the Voodoo locations so I know what to expect as far as quality of food and cleanliness goes. I'd rank this one as "okay" compared to the others. However, the service was horrible. The entire wait staff and manager should be retrained. Tables needed to be bussed and cleaned, our group of 5 (and two other couples who arrived after us) were completely ignored for several minutes while wait staff and the manager walked past a number of times despite very few tables seated at 2:00 on a Saturday,..and when we were finally acknowledged (by what I can only assume was an off duty waitress as she was dressed in street clothes saying "they'll be with you in a minute" and then she disappeared into the kitchen) the manager came over and barked out, "How many?" He then turned on his heel and walked away without a word. We didn't know if we should follow him or wait or what. He just simply walked away. After a bit we noticed him across the restaurant waving at us to come over to the table. When we got there he just walked away again... without a word. Our waitress came over after a few minutes and passed out the menus and took our drink orders. The food was acceptable (don't order the shrimp poboy though... the bread was horrible and the shrimp could break your tooth). The waitress, although efficient, should actually serve the plates and drinks instead of handing them to the nearest customer and expect them to deliver the plate to whomever ordered it. This is how you loose your customers, Voodoo BBQ. We won't be back. We'll just go up the road to another place next time.

I was staying at the hotel right next door, and came for dinner. I didn't have really high expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant has table service and a bar. I didn't see what was on tap. I ordered the pulled pork and brisket with mustard greens (gris gris greens) and the corn pudding. My favorites were the pulled pork and the greens. Both pulled pork and brisket came without sauce, and there were a few kinds of sauces on the table (vinegar-based, hotter sauce, and one other). The mustard greens were really flavorful and delicious. I wish it came with more. Corn pudding was good too, but not a must have. Bottom Line - There is a lot of incredible food in New Orleans. If you're looking for a real New Orleans experience I'd look elsewhere. However, if you're looking for a good decent meal, it's worth checking out.

Went back last week while on a trip to N.O. MUCH improved service since last time. Our server Krista was so friendly we felt like having her sit down with us! I got my fave Graveyard platter with brisket, jerk chicken, greens & tater salad. Portions of meat seemed to be bigger than last time. woohoo! I had 3 slices of brisket & 3 slices of chicken and some greens leftover to go! One other friend got just the brisket plate. I think she might have been jealous of my combo. 3rd friend got a LARGE salad with grilled chicken. So much lettuce you could have made 3 salads. Unfortunately the amount of grilled chicken was a little skimpy. GREAT homemade ranch dressing. Friend ordered a second side of dressing. We split a dessert of the peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream. Fresh real peaches not canned! Delicious Blue Bunny brand vanilla bean ice cream. I heard from someone else eating at the restaurant that their bread pudding is delish so will have to try that next time.

went at lunch time recently with customers. the restaurant was smokey inside, so by the time we left we smelled like a BBQ pit. I guess it was for atmosphere?? Sad thing is, I think that might have been the only thing smoked. nothing we ate seamed to be. the brisket was bland, tasted like is was cooked in the oven, no spices, and there wasn't any sign of a smoke ring on the meat. tender yes, moist so so, but without bbq sauce.. bland. I asked the waitress what kind of wood they used, she got a funny look and said she'd have to check. never returned with an answer. I asked the host what kind of wood they used. he said "real wood", "we light it, it boins ha ha ha" ! anyway, the pulled pork while tender lacked flavor too, again no indication it ever saw any smoke. and no spices. the rest of the food was OK. the sauces...meh. might have come from a jar and been doctored a bit. well, i'd never say never, but there are so many great places to eat... but this aint one of them.

this place is incredible. I've been craving Cajun for many months now. I recently moved to Fort Worth, TX from California, never knowing what real Cajun food tastes like and holy smokes, this place hit the spot! I had their chicken gumbo and fried shrimp. It was heaven! My daughter is the pickiest eater and she lived it too. I will be returning to this place.

We there for lunch. Waitress was nice. That is the best it got. The bread on my pulled pork poboy was so dry it literally crumbled apart when I grabbed it. The meat was just so-so. This was not good bbq. I won't try it again.

I have a serious love relationship for Voodoo BBQ. The best thing?? the sides. I mean isn't that what really sets the good BBQ places apart from the great. The sauce options are nice and I usually go with their mojo, it has just a perfect balance of flavor and kick. My new things to love at Voodoo??? the WINGS!!! You heard me the wings. They smoke the wings and their sauces are AH-MAZ-ING I will take their wings over any other place locally. The honey pepper are so good I crave them! On gamedays they do a 50 cent wing special which is awesome. I think they also have drink specials too. I have had hit and miss service here but I don't come for that, I come for the food, and it is good. You would be doing yourself and injustice if you didn't try their greens and corn pudding sides.

    (4)
  • Mike W.

Stopped here because it was by my hotel and had decent reviews on Yelp. The service was a 3/10, she didn't introduce herself, tell me about the specials, nor recommend anything. The food came in a reasonable amount of time but is was lukewarm. I had the half rack of ribs with corn pudding. The corn pudding was awesome!!! Ribs warm and dry. I do admit I am picky about BBQ being from Texas but this was subpar at best.

Went to VooDoo last night after a day of Mardi Gras-ing. The food was soooo yummy...the Honey Pepper Angel Wings are delicious..not enough celery (3 teeny stalks)...but OMG, the wings are so good. I had the Graveyard Platter with pulled pork, turkey, mac & cheese and steamed vegetables...all delicious. Now, for the not so great comments... The service was good, but slow....I don't think it was the waitress' fault though....I think it was the kitchen. The waitress was nice and accomodating enough. The hostess was a little strange....when we let her know that we didn't want a table by the door, she put us in a very awkward table that was jammed between others directly in front of the waitress/service station...you know, where waitstaff is always getting beverages, scraping plates, and making noise with ice, etc. We asked for another table, since there were SO many available and she told us we could sit where we wanted. Weird. The portions have REALLY gotten smaller over the years (see the picture on the blue plate...everything was half that size...except the bread). I know this is happening everywhere, but most places don't make their portions smaller AND raise the prices. VooDoo has done both. BOOOOOOOO! I did specifically tell the waitress about my dissatisfaction with the portion sizes and she said absolutely nothing. BOOOOOOOO again.

BBQ food is not my favorite cuisine, but when you're in New Orleans you have to eat Creole BBQ. My favorite things to order are the side dishes, like cheesy, baked macaroni and cheese, Cole slaw, baked beans, garlic bread, and onion rings. I ordered Jerk Chicken, and was expecting a spicy rub, but the chicken was moist and marinated in a sweet yet smoky sauce. I added a little of the VooDoo Mojo sauce to add more kick. Lastly, we shared an order of bread pudding topped with vanilla sauce. That was more than enough to share. Our waitress, Christy was very sweet.

I've been eating at this restaurant since it first opened and I was a really BIG fan for a long time. But, my experiences there over the last 6 months have left me looking for lunch somewhere else. My coworkers and I made the mistake of going there for lunch today and we will not be going back. Took 45 minutes to get the wrong food. "Chargrilled chicken" in my ceasar salad was processed chicken like you buy sliced at the deli in Winn Dixie. I like ceasar salads because I love dark romain lettuce but I had only white stems. Another group of my coworkers that ate there today also were told they had to pay $1 extra for chicken in what the menu clearly says is a loaded baked potato with your choice of meats included. It's a shame this place has gone down so much. It was once my favorite place for ribs but I can get them just as good at the grocery store for half the price. I guess when you are the only sit down restaurant in a large buisness park you can get away with a lot. The truck stop down the road will be getting my business from now on.

I hate to say it, but I'm not impressed. I frequent the Severn Voodoo location pretty often and like it a lot. The food here is as good as it is on Severn but the service is seriously lacking. A party of seven of us from work went for lunch. We were seated immediately, which was good, but then it took nearly 20 minutes to place our orders and then over 45 minutes to get our food. That's the entirety of our lunch break, all without eating or driving. To make maters more frustrating one of our party ordered a baked potato and then THIRTY FIVE MINUTES LATER was informed they were out of potatoes. Now he's looking at a menu, pissed off, trying to find something quick to order so we can get back to work on time. The one saving grace is when the waitress came back five minutes later to tell us they found a potato for him. This may have solved one problem, but the frustration of waiting so long only to be told you can't have your order remained. The food is good but they need better communication between the kitchen and servers and the customers.

Disappointed. I just equate New Orleans with good food and good service and always am excited when I go. I stayed at a hotel next door to this restaurant and decided to give it a try. I went in and was immediately treated indeferently by the staff and had menus thrown at me at my table. I looked at the menu and saw that the prices were reasonable and the food looked good. I wanted to eat a little lighter so I ordered the stuffed baked potato with grilled chicken. The waitress was curt with me when I ordered. I eventually got my potato and IT WAS COLD...as in a previously cooked potato that they forgot to even microwave! I sent it back again dealing with a staff that did not care. They eventually brought me back an oddly ultra hot potato that was not even cooked correctly. Really, this a very blah place with food you can get in any small town in the US. This place reminds of a retaurant that needs a tv show to do a makeover. Skip if possible.

The gumbo was good and shrimp poboy was just ok. The server was nice even though she seemed like she wanted to share her life story with the customers. She also charged me for fries that I said that I didn't want. The poboy just seemed like it had too much bread and not enough shrimp. I'd try again if I had some time to kill before flying out of New Orleans again...

at the one in St Charles parish just outside of the airport apron, to the west on US 61- (Airline hwy) you will find good music- and grand bar and great service- I enjoyed the jerk, brisket and not so much the half chicken on the bone- excellent choices of sauces, and sides. and drinks made by a most adorable bartend. This restaurant is attached to the hotel so there are tourists here that otherwise might not venture out into the City for good BBQ- we dont have many of them, so this has to be counted as a serious local contender in the best of what we have in NOLA

We stopped in here because we had been driving for a couple of hours and this was literally the first non-fast-food place we encountered that was open. Nice place. Clean. Friendly staff. So far, so good. The prices were extremely reasonable which had me kind of concerned about the quality. I ordered the brisket with mac and cheese and potato salad. What came out was actually pretty impressive. The brisket was much better than the price would lead one to believe. The mac and cheese and potato salad were just okay. The meal included a piece of garlic or Texas toast that was actually quite good. My buddy had the chicken sandwich which he reported to be very good. A note on their sauces: Their Texas-style sauce is pretty average, something you would expect to buy at a grocery store. They have 2 other sauces, a North Carolina-style which I did not try and a spicy variety that I did. The spicy sauce, as far as I could tell, is simply Tabasco! Lame! Nothing too special, but an easy stop and affordable eats.
